Body Composition
Body fat is an essential component of the human body that is stored under the skin to protect and insulate vital internal organs and provide a limitless supply of energy.
Body composition is a comparison of the body’s percentage of lean body mas (i.e. bones, muscles, organs and blood) to body fat.
A healthy body fat percentage is different for men and women. Generally the range is:
Males (ages 14-29): 14-20%
Females (ages 14-29): 17-24%
Males (ages 30+): 17-23 %
Females (ages 30+): 20-27 %
As your body fat percentage changes, your body’s nutritional and caloric requirements will need to be adjusted. There are many benefits to maintaining a proper percentage of body fat: Lower risk of cardiovascular disease, reduced risk of diabetes, reduced risk of arthritis, and reduced risk of high blood pressure.
In addition to these benefits, which are critical to long-term health and well-being, proper levels of body fat will dramatically improve your self-image and will help you look and feel great!
